Weekly Round-up 3/8-3/14

Welcome to another edition of the GAME ON newsletter. It appears the possibility of us being able to start enjoying the games again at our local watering holes is near with dining restrictions being lifted here soon in Los Angeles county. Next step, watching the games at the stadiums and arenas!

The Lakers (25-13) returned to the court with a come from behind victory on Friday over the Indiana Pacers. The Lake show continues to hold onto that 3rd spot in the Western Conference, sitting a half game behind the Suns and 3 games behind the Utah Jazz. They travel to the Bay area tonight to face off against the Warriors and the always entertaining Steph Curry. Tomorrow they return to host the Timberwolves and the Hornets and rookie sensation Lamelo Ball, out of Chino High, on Thursday, then finish the weekend with a game against Atlanta and a road game on Sunday against Phoenix.

The Inglewood Clippers (25-15) hit the road for a two-game series against the Dallas Mavericks tonight and Wednesday. They return to Staples Center on Saturday to host Lamelo Ball and the Hornets and the Hawks with Trae Young on Monday night.

For you college hoops junkies, your favorite time of the year is upon us as the March Madness tournament begins on Thursday. Both the UCLA Bruins and the Trojans of Southern Cal gained entry into the tournament. The Bruins come into the tournament as an 11th seed and will face Michigan State on Thursday, while the Trojans, who finished 1st in the Pac-12 and #23 overall, will begin play on Saturday with an opponent to be determined. Gonzaga who finished the season 26-0 and is trying to become the first team since 1976 to finish the season undefeated are the heavy favorite to win the tournament.

The Kings (11-10-6) were supposed to face off against St. Louis for a two-game series against the Blues, but tonight’s game has been postponed due to weather conditions that prevented the Kings from traveling back to Los Angeles following their game against the Avalanche on Sunday. They’re scheduled to play the Blues again on Wednesday and the Las Vegas Knights on Friday and Sunday. All games are at the Staples Center.

For all of you fight fans out there, a much-anticipated match up between Heavyweight champions Tyson Fury (30-0-1, 21 KOs) and Anthony Joshua (24-1, 22 Knockouts) has been announced, first reported by ESPN. It will be a two-fight contract with the site to be determined. The unification fights are being targeted for June/July and the rematch sometime in November or December of this year. Fury is the Ring Magazine and WBC Heavyweight champion, while Joshua is the current IBF, WBA, and WBO titleholder.

The Dodgers are almost done with spring training and Opening Day is about 2 weeks away on April 1st. Clayton Kershaw has been named the opening day starter. This will mark Kershaw’s 9th opening day start


of his historic career. The first round of cuts was announced today, and the roster now stands at 45 players.
